This Week’s Deep Dive - Your First 90 Days

The first 90 days are arguably the most important for a marketer joining a start-up, especially if you are the first marketer or growth person on the team...

During this time, you’ll build the foundation for your future success in the company by learning, earning trust, and getting some wins on the board. There are 4 phases in building your 90-day plan:

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻

𝗦𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲

𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻

𝗔𝗰𝘁

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 (𝟯 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀)

You may be tempted to start making changes and launching programs right away, but don’t fall into this trap...

First learn all you can about the business, customers, competitors, market, and current marketing strategy before diving in with action plans. Truly understand the customers you are serving, including their pain points and how your company uniquely solves them.

𝗦𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 (𝟯 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀)

After the “Learn” phase, it is critical to take enough time to reflect and synthesize all the knowledge you gained before you put together an action plan.

I recommend going over your notes from the “Learn” phase and writing out concrete statements representing the things you learned. The act of writing these things and stepping back to look at them from an outsider’s point of view can help crystallize your best course of action.

𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 (𝟮 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀)

Here’s where the magic happens. Now that you’ve uncovered insights and written some conclusions about the current and possible future states, it’s time to map out how to get there.

The plan will have several elements for each area, but generally follow the same pattern of: current state → highest priority opportunities → action steps → timeline.

𝗔𝗰𝘁 (𝟰 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀)

Once the plan is written and a timeline is set, it’s time to get moving. Focus first on the highest priority initiatives you identified in the plan and follow the timelines you set.

You can also use 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗚𝗣𝗧 to help. Here's one example prompt to get you started.

Top Growth Marketing AI News

OpenAI has announced that its ChatGPT now has the ability to browse the web for up-to-date information using Bing as its source. This feature, called Browse with Bing, is currently available to Plus and Enterprise subscribers and will be rolled out to all users soon. Previously, Microsoft's Bing Chat and Google's Bard offered similar functionality, but ChatGPT now provides direct answers from current and authoritative sources. OpenAI had temporarily removed the web browsing capability from its iOS app due to users accessing paywalled content, but it has since reintroduced the feature with improvements. Users with OpenAI subscriptions can enable Browse with Bing by following the provided instructions.

OpenAI has announced the rollout of GPT-4V, a multimodal model that allows users to ask questions about images. GPT-4V can accept both text and image inputs and provide relevant results based on those inputs. The model has been tested in various scenarios, including visual question answering, optical character recognition (OCR), math OCR, object detection, CAPTCHA solving, and crossword/sudoku solving. While GPT-4V shows promising capabilities in answering questions and understanding context in images, it does have limitations, such as missing text or characters in images and inaccuracies in object detection. OpenAI acknowledges these limitations and is working on further model safeguarding.

ChatGPT is now offering new voice and image capabilities, providing users with a more intuitive interface. With voice, users can engage in back-and-forth conversations with their assistant, request bedtime stories, or settle debates. To get started with voice, users can opt-in through the mobile app settings and choose from five different voices. The new voice capability uses a text-to-speech model and professional voice actors to generate human-like audio. Additionally, users can now show ChatGPT images to troubleshoot problems, plan meals, or analyze data. Image understanding is powered by multimodal GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 models. These capabilities will be gradually rolled out to Plus and Enterprise users, with plans to expand access to other groups soon.
